The State University of New York schools are now getting into the COVID-19 testing game.  Earlier today, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that the state would be teaming up with not only several of its SUNY schools but also the private Syracuse University, to open ten new COVID-19 testing sites across the state.

 Governor Hochul said;

We are getting creative in our approach to make testing easier for New Yorkers,"  "With testing now available at SUNY campuses and Syracuse University, we are expanding access across the state to make sure that we limit the spread of COVID-19.

There are plans to open additional sites in other SUNY school locations across the state, as the program expands in the coming weeks.  Syracuse University will also be joining the initial wave of SUNY schools as part of the state's program, as they will be opening a testing location at a site known for being home to the Syracuse Orangemen teams, The Carrier Dome. The Dome site will open for business on Tuesday, January 4th, and will have the capability to conduct upwards of 4,000 tests a day.  The National Guard will be on-site, similar to the Vaccination site at UB's South Campus here in Buffalo, to help with staffing.

The first wave of SUNY testing sites which will open later this week include:

  • Binghamton University Community Testing Site
  • SUNY Plattsburgh Community Testing Site
  • SUNY Cortland Community Testing Site
  • University of Buffalo Community Testing Site
  • Buffalo State College Community Testing Site
