The COVID-19 positivity rate in Erie County remains steady at 'high.' The Erie County Department of Health is reporting that there were 4,738 new COVID-19 cases for the week ending May 14, 2022. While the number of new cases decreased by 5 percent from the previous week's 5,005 cases, the positivity rate rose slightly.

The weekly COVID-19 positivity rate was 20.2%, similar to the previous week's COVID-19 positivity rate of 20.1%.

According to the Governor's daily COVID-19 update, Western New York's 7-day average COVID-19 positivity rate is 18.20 percent, which is the highest of all regions in the state. Governor Hochul announced that COVID-19 booster has been approved for use in children,

"Today, the Food and Drug Administration authorized the first COVID-19 booster dose for five to 11 year olds. Following approval from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, New Yorkers will be able to safely provide this life-saving tool to their children. In the meantime, I am calling on our parents and guardians to do what they can to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. That includes getting boosted, if you haven’t already. Let’s continue to work together and take care of one another, New York.”
