One year ago, 'Glee' fans were shocked when news was released that Cory Monteith had passed away as a result of a drug overdose. Cory's father, Joe Monteith, recently spoke to ET Canada about his son.

"I still miss him very much and I still have the empty feeling," he told the news program.

While Cory and Joe had been estranged for most of Cory's life, Joe says that the two rekindled their relationship during Cory's last years. Unfortunately, however, Joe was not able to attend Cory's funeral when Cory's mother and Joe's ex-wife did not send him the memorial service plans.

"Cory was a likeable young man and if he was in the room, you'd be smiling," Joe remembers of his son. "He enjoyed life. That's why I was so shocked about the outcome of everything."

When asked about 'Glee' co-star Lea Michele, who was dating Cory at the time, Joe spoke highly of her. "She's a beautiful young woman, she's just getting to the top of her career and I don't expect her to go out and do it alone. She should enjoy life. She had a good time when she was with Cory, from what I understand, but life's gotta go on."
