This story BLEW my mind! Every once in a while I see or read the news that people are impersonating police officers. Not sure what reasoning anyone would have for such an act but if you were unaware its completely ILLEGAL.

Well a man in Cheektowaga is being accused of doing just that. According to WIVB Cheektowaga Police say that on Monday 26 year old Corey Shepard had called and made a report about a reckless driver. Not only did Shepard call in the report but he also showed up to the scene dressed as a Police Officer. Officials say he dressed the part and seemed official.

Shepard was wearing a dark police uniform, duty gun belt & handgun and a  vest that read “POLICE.” The actual officer that arrived to the scene was Cheektowaga police officer  Jacob Wodowski. But Officer Wodowkski had suspicions about Shepard who was claiming to be and off-duty Buffalo Cop. However Shepard shared a badge and a ID card with Wodowski before parting ways.

It wasn't until later when Cheektowaga Police watched back Officer Wodowski's dash cam footage to find what allegedly shows Shepard pointing a gun at the driver that was stopped. Thus began an investigation into who Corey Shepard was.

Turns out Corey Shepard is not a Buffalo Police officer at all, but rather an employee of a local security system company that installs and maintains systems. When police arrived at Shepard's home to make an arrest they found a ton of police gear. Among that list was the items he wore the night of reckless driver call, as well as various other uniforms, a fake taser, 7 fake police ID cards, and 6 fake police badges. They also found 14 vials of steroids and hypodermic needles.

Since his arrest Shepard has been released on bail. Those who believe they might have been scammed or interacted with Shepard while he was in uniform are being asked to contact police.
