Snacking on melon is a rite of summer, but experts at the Center for Disease Control are warning people in eight states to throw it out, due to possible salmonella bacteria contamination, according to WGRZ.

New York is not among the eight states where the recall is currently in effect, and no deaths have been reported linked to the bad melon. Pre-cut melon sold on its own or part of fruit salads distributed to Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina and Ohio are part of the recall.

WGRZ reports the melon was sold by the following stores: Costco, Jay C, Kroger, Payless, Owen's, Sprouts, Trader Joe's, Walgreens, Walmart and Whole Foods.

The CDC says whole melon is not part of the recall.
