The Meteorologists at News 4 (WIVB-TV) tell us that Friday portions of WNY will see chances for scattered thunderstorms mainly from the afternoon into the evening. This will be the leading edge of the widespread soaking rain threat to the start of the weekend.
As more people are looking to beat the heat, air conditioning companies across Western New York are working overtime. At the same time, National Grid is asking some customers to avoid using too much electricity to avoid additional power outages during this extended period of extreme heat.
WIVB-TV Meteorologist Andrew Baglini informs us that the mugginess returns for a heatwave this week. Highs pushing 10+° above average for this time of year will last into the entire week and we may be within degrees of records at least a couple afternoons.
Western New York was treated to an unbelievable lightning show last evening that moved in from across Lake Ontario between 10 pm and midnight. Along with thunder and lightning came heavy rain and gusty winds, causing flooding in poor drainage areas.
