The cashless tolls have been in-place on the Grand Island Bridge for some time now and if you're a Canadian driver, there currently is no way to charge you to drive along there.

However, according to WGRZ, Lieutenant Governor of New York Kathy Hochul says that an agreement to charge Canadian drivers to cross cashless tolls here in New York State will be coming very soon.

“There absolutely is,” said Kathy Hochul, when asked if there might be a breakthrough in what has amounted to roughly year and a half long standoff between authorities in New York state and those in Ontario and Quebec Canada.

“I look forward to the day very soon when I can tell you that this has been resolved and it’s an important issue for people to know there is fairness,” Hochul said.

A spokesperson with the Ontario Transportation Ministry says no agreement has been reached yet, however.

"But the Thruway Authority has been working diligently on this and I’m going to say that there will be an answer very shortly," said Hochul.

If an agreement is reached, that means that Canadian drivers would also be charged to drive the 90 interstate, which will be entirely cashless tolls by the end of 2020.
