If you are planning on using flames to get rid of sticks or trash, you may have to wait until the ban is over!

The annual burn ban will be in effect in New York State for a few months.

According to a Tweet from the NYSDEC:

Think it can't happen in your backyard? First consider how windy it has been in the area recently. That can certainly fuel a fire out of hand in a matter of minutes. Second, as the DEC reports:

Historically, open burning of debris is the largest single cause of spring wildfires in New York State. When temperatures are warmer and the past fall's debris, dead grass, and leaves dry out, wildfires can start and spread easily and be further fueled by winds and a lack of green vegetation.
