According to News Reports, Marijuana is listed as a 'schedule one drug'.  'Schedule one drug' status is determined by the DEA and includes heroin.  'Schedule one drugs' are considered to be the most addictive and dangerous substances.  The government doesn't provide funding for schedule one drugs to be researched.  the presence of THC in marijuana is what keeps it classified as a 'schedule one drug'.  However, Plant Biotechnology at the 22nd Century Group out of Clarence has figured out a way to remove THC from marijuana which could potentially change the way marijuana is used or perceived and would remove it from the 'schedule one drug' listing, making it available for research funding.
