We're still over a month away from the Buffalo Sabres reporting for training camp, but the Sabres news is still front and center lately.

The Sabres signed veteran forward Riley Sheahan last week, which is a return for Sheahan, who played with the Sabres during the 2020-2021 season.

But Sabres fans have one eye on another piece of news that has not quite become reality just yet, but we're waiting for it, nevertheless.

The National Hockey League will bring back the popular reverse retro jerseys for the 2022-2023 season. The league first introduced them for the 2020-2021 season and they were hugely successful.

The third jerseys incorporate the old with the new. For instance, the Sabres brought back the "butter-knives" alternate logo for their first reverse retro in 2020, but had blue and gold colors, instead of the black and red.

We've already had a few teams reverse retro plans get leaked in the past few weeks, and on Monday, a possible Calgary Flames leak. It looks similar to what the Flames did last time.

There seems to be two logical directions the Sabres could go here.

The first is a black and red reverse retro, which I think most fans would almost assume will happen. The second is a rumor that took on a life of its own a week or two ago, where the "Buffaslug" would be the logo for the new reverse retro.

I don't think Sabres fans would love a Buffaslug reverse retro, if the reaction to when the team switched top the Buffaslug logo in 2006 is any indication.

We should be hearing something very, very soon; whether it's a leak or some kind of official report of what the Sabres reverse retro jersey plans are for 2022-2023.
