The Erie County department of health issued a statement saying that anyone inside Highmark Stadium anytime they are walking in the corridors, inside shops and inside the restrooms. Fans will not have to wear a mask when they are seated outdoors at the stadium.

The new mask mandate goes into effect ASAP and will be in place for the Billy Joel concert happening at the stadium this Saturday.

County health officials made issued the mask guidance rules because the county went into a "substantial” designation for COVID-19 transmission rates since late July.

The Bills are set to host their and final "Open to the Public" practice at the stadium on Wednesday, September 1st, and will host their only pre-season game at home on August 28th. The Bills are set to kick off the regular season at home on Sunday, September 12th. At the time of this writing, all fans would have to wear masks while indoors and while walking inside the stadium.

The county has required anyone that has been inside a building run by the county like courthouses and DMVs to wear masks while indoors since the end of July.

The county has over 670 news cases of COVID-19 as of August 7th.

A of right now, there will be no capacity limits as the stadium. If cases continue to rise, the county could cap the number of fans who would be allowed into the stadium as they did for last year's playoffs.

The mask rule applies to both people who are vaccinated and to people who are not vaccinated.
