It was considered a major coup when the Buffalo Bills landed Super Bowl Champion Von Miller this off-season to help boost their already really good defense. But it looks like a former Bills Great is claiming he is a major reason the Bills were able to land Miller.
In an interview with TMZ Sports, the former #1 overall draft pick by the Buffalo Bills in 1985 and Hall of Fame defender Bruce Smith said he was the reason Von Miller signed with the Bills.
Smith made the revelation in a conversation with us this week ... explaining that prior to Miller's Bills signing this offseason, Smith had a conversation with head coach Sean McDermott and GM Brandon Beane to convince them to go after Miller.
"I told them," Smith said, "I said, 'Look, this is the guy we need rushing the quarterback.'"
Miller who had played for the LA Rams and the Denver Broncos signed a 6-year $120 million dollar deal with the Buffalo Bills. If he were to play out the entire contract, Miller would be nearly 40 years old when the deal is done.
In his career, Mills has played in 150 games, recorded 413 tackles, and has sacked the quarterback 115.5 times. If he keeps up that pace for QB sacks, he could eclipse Smith on the all-time sack list by the end of the deal. Smith has 200 QB sacks and over 1000 career tackles in his 18-year career.
