According to WGRZ, the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office confirmed there is a search for a missing airplane near the Jamestown Airport.

Sheriff Jim Quattrone says a plane with a pilot and two passengers lost contact with air traffic controllers just before 5:50 pm on Sunday.

According to WKBW, at least 125 people are involved in the search for the missing plane.

The plane took off from North Carolina, en route to the Jamestown Airport.

"will continue through the night or until plane is located, said the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office."

Weather may have played a factor in the plane's disappearance with heavy winds and snow on Sunday night in Western New York.

Another problem with the search is much of the area near the airport contains steep hills, swamp land and even ravines, making a search difficult. Sheriff Quattrone says they will avoid the swamp land until daylight.

A scary situation in Chautauqua County. Prayers and thoughts go out to the people on the plane as the authorities will ne working around the clock to locate the missing plane.

This is a developing story.
