Hundreds of letters came in, and they were all amazing!  The winner, Drew Supon, submitted the following:

My fiance and I are high school sweethearts, I'm 35 and shes 34 so yes we've been dating for a long time lol. A few yrs back a friend of ours lost her 5 karat diamond engagement ring in Lake Erie in front of Mickey Rats here in Angola. After 3 days of searching with a metal detector we found her ring! Ended up getting a call from the local news channel saying they wanted to do a story on "The Ring" that aired and then the CBS morning show called and wanted to do a segment on their morning show. They flew out and did the story, a few days later the story went viral and I was now know as "The ring finder" It was a very fulfilling experience to say the least.

So last may we went on a family trip to the 1000 islands. While there on Wellsley Island my girlfriend wandered into an antique shop and found an old vintage ring from the 40s. I was dragged in the store and told by all the girls that "I better buy this ring for Brenda" I simply said "put that down its probably fake" and we left. The next morning while she was showering I snuck back to that old antique shop and I bought that ring :)

We recently bought a boat and have become boat people. We are often anchored in front of that very same spot at Mickey Rats all summer long. I would often put my snorkel and fins on and go look for more rings or treasure. I had hidden the ring deep inside my boat bag and figured what better way to pop the question then while we were on the boat and with all of our friends. I didn't really plan a set date but one beautiful Sunday last August I simply decided it was time. I also figured what better way to propose to her then to "pretend" I found another ring :)

I hid that ring in the pocket of my swim trunks and jumped off the back of the boat. All the girls were on the backs of the boats talking and soaking up the sun. I simply went under water a few times as if I was searching for something and then came up screaming "I found another ring" . Holding it up it glistened in the sun and everyone just stopped and stared in awe. "Drew found ANOTHER ring!" someone shouted. I started to smile and started wading closer and closer to the back of my boat towards Brenda and the girls. All eyes were locked on that ring and I started to see a few people scramble for their phones lol some people figured out what was about to happen and some didn't (including Brenda) I totally caught her by surprise when I continued to hold that ring up and climb up the back of our boat, and getting down on one knee. All the girls started crying as I simply said "will you marry me Brenda" She said yes!!! People started cheering and screaming, in the water, from the other boats, even people on the beach. My friend snuck up to Mickey Rats and bought 2 bottles of champagne. We all toasted to the engagement and it turned into the best Sunday Funday ever. Hope u like my story, we have pics to go along lol. Our wedding is planned for this summer at the beach (no not Mickey Rats though) ha ha.

Thanks guys, I hope we win. She has always wanted to stay at the mansion since we've met.

Congrats guys....you'll be enjoying a romantic dinner out on us, plus an overnight stay at The Mansion!

As it were, Melissa Holmes once covered the "original" ring-loss story....and CBS national even picked it up for a segment on "CBS This Morning"!
