After plans for a Grand Island facility fell through over the summer, it looks as if Amazon is headed to further south.

But, not too far.

The planned facility is still staying in Erie County, and is looking at Hamburg as its new location.

According to WIVB, Hamburg supervisor James Shaw confirmed Amazon is planning a warehouse and distribution center at Route Five and Bayview Road:

"He says the facility would be on 57-acres of land. Shaw says the project has been in the planning stages for several months now."

WIVB received this statement from Amazon about the plans for opening a new warehouse and distribution center in Hamburg:

"Amazon is a dynamic business and we are constantly exploring new locations. We weigh a variety of factors when deciding where to develop future sites to best serve customers, however, we have a policy of not commenting on our future roadmap."

After planning to initially set up shop on Grand Island, the project plans were withdrawn in August.

At the time Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarcz said:

"Amazon has created jobs in Erie County and invested in our workforce at their two other local facilities, so while the Grand Island location is now off the table my team is prepared to work with them if necessary to identify another possible location for this regionally-important project or any other project."
