The Solar Storm that scientists had been watching turned out to be less severe than expected by the time it reached Earth Thursday and Friday. But it did make for some spectacular Auroras in places that normally don't see them. The picture we've highlighted is from Yellowknife, Canada, and is quite beautiful.

The glowing auroras, according to space.com are caused when charged particles from the sun collide with Earth's magnetic field. These particles are in abundance lately in the wake of a series of super-charged solar eruptions that began on Tuesday (March 6).
