9 Movies or TV Shows Featuring Niagara Falls

There have only been a limited number of movies (other than documentaries) that are entirely about Niagara Falls. But Niagara Falls has been included in numerous movies and TV shows.

From Marilyn Monroe to Melissa McCarthy, Christopher Reeve to Jim Carrey, Niagara Falls USA sets the stage for movies ranging from comedy, drama and of course, romance.

If you’re a native Western New Yorker or merely a self-proclaimed movie buff, you can easily spot the Falls or the Niagara Frontier from afar, but if you’re unfamiliar, here are some of the most notable movies or TV shows that were filmed right here in Niagara Falls.

One personal recollection...when they were filming "Superman II" in Niagara Falls Ontario, I remember my brother Mike and I going over to watch the filming. We missed Superman saving the young boy at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls by a day but saw the film crew and others gathering near the Great Gorge Adventure, which led into the Niagara Gorge and the lower Niagara River.

Went we got down to the walkway they were filming the scene where Lois is in the whirlpool and Clark is clumsily trying to save her. The actors were both actually in the lower Niagara River, in a cove-like section with nets surrounding the main portion of the river. They filmed the scene a number of times, requiring both Reeve and Kidder to come back onshore and change their outfits. I remember thinking it funny seeing a clothing rack with 6 or 7 identical Clark Kent outfits hanging from it.

I remember asking Christopher Reeve if I could get a picture or autograph to which he replied..."maybe later, I am soaking wet right now".

Ah, the magic of Hollywood, right in my own backyard.
