Luck is defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as "a force that brings good or bad fortune  or events or circumstances that operate for or against an individual"

So today as most people do things to bring them good luck like pick a four-leaf clover, we wanted to look back at some of the unlucky times in Western New York history. Some of these events changed people's lives, some made the whole city feel bad, and some of these events did both!

Whether the event played out on a football field, or the fact Buffalo is close to the Canadian border, these events would be considered unlucky for the region for the citizens in Western New York.

Not all things events will be "unlucky" to everyone. For example, if you are New York Giants fan living in West Seneca, "Wide Right" is a lucky moment for you. Or if you were a member of the British army stationed in Buffalo during the War of 1812, the burning down of the city would be a lucky event for you.

Of course, if you are a Western New Yorker, those events are definitely "bad luck" The good news is that we have bounced back from most of these events, well maybe not the Rigas' buying the Sabres, but most of them.

So grab your rabbit's foot, hang up your horseshoe, and toss some salt over your shoulder and check out 7 really unlucky moments in Western New York History.
