50th Anniversary of the First Spacewalk
NASA is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first spacewalk today.
It was June 3, 1965 when astronaut Ed White stepped out of the Gemini 4 space capsule to become the first man to successfully execute a spacewalk. He spent exactly twenty-three minutes outside of the capsule, and proved to the world that astronauts could survive outside a space vehicle for a limited period of time.
Ed White's journey set the stage for the successful landing and exploration of the moon.
