50 Full Scholarships To 12-17 Yr Olds Who Get Fully Vaccinated
Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced an incentive to encourage 12 to 17-year-olds to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The latest state incentive is called 'Get a Shot to Make Your Future'.
The state will raffle off 50 full tuition, room and board scholarships to any public college or university in New York State to those ages 12 to 17 who receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine beginning May 27 through July 7.
According to WKBW-TV the 4-year scholarships will be awarded via a random drawing every Wednesday, according to a statement by the governor you will be required to go to a New York State website and input your information to enter the drawing.
The Pfizer vaccine is the only COVID-19 vaccine that the 12 to 17 year old age group is eligible for. Moderna did announce Tuesday its trial results show its vaccine is effective in the 12 to 17 age group and is planning to submit their data to the CDC and FDA in early June and will request authorization.
The governor said according to state data the 12 to 17 age group presently accounts for 5% of total COVID-19 tests and 10% of total positive COVID-19 tests.
Cuomo went on to say that the earlier you receive the vaccine the better chance you have of winning because you will be eligible for each weekly drawing.
This isn't the first incentive offered for vaccinations. The state previously announced the 'Vax and Scratch' program and a free two-day pass to any New York State Park as an incentive to receive the vaccine.
