The first lake-effect snow storm of the new year in Western New York closed schools and made for difficult commutes, with the most affected areas being Cheektowaga, Depew, and South Buffalo. .

The snow started coming down at a steady pace just around 6 a.m., and it continued to fall well into the evening, making it very difficult for those who were at work to make their way home.

The lake-effect snow storm dropped at a rate of about 1-3 inches an hour.

The Department of Transportation even urged Western New Yorkers to “stay off the roads if you do not have to travel so that plows can safely and efficiently clear the roads.”

As someone who was in a Cheektowaga plow truck yesterday, it is insane how many times you have to recycle back through the same streets to replow the snow because the snow was falling so quickly.

Depending on whether you were in Cheektowaga, South Buffalo, Downtown, Lockport, or Hamburg, you may have seen more snow than others.
