Two Buffalo men have been indicted on charges connected to a double shooting on the city's west side. Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced today, Thursday, October 28, 2021, that 32-year-old Edwin R. Calo-Montanez and 27-year-old Victor Perez Martinez were arraigned yesterday.

Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan charged both men with the following:

Two counts of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree (Class “B” violent felonies)
Two counts of Assault in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felonies)
One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony)

The men were allegedly involved in a shooting incident on July 14, just after 9 pm. They are accused of firing multiple shots at two other men during a verbal altercation on West Avenue. Both of the male victims were transported to Erie County Medical Center, where they were treated for serious injuries.

Martinez was also indicted in connection to another incident that took place on May 21. He was stopped by Buffalo Police while driving an SUV with dark tinted windows. Upon further investigation during the traffic stop, officers allegedly found an illegal weapon, a scale, half an ounce of cocaine, and almost $5,500 in cash on Martinez's person. He was arraigned today before Judge Eagan. His additional charges include:

Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree (Class “B” felonies)
One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class “C” violent felony)
Two counts of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree (Class “A” misdemeanors)

Martinez is out on a $125,000 bond, while Calo-Montanez was not granted bail. If the men are convicted on all the charges they are each facing, they could spend up to 25 years behind bars.
