Hundreds of people in Western New York showed up for meeting to learn more about working for the ride-sharing service, Uber.

The service works through a smartphone app, which uses GPS to determine your location and connect you with an Uber driver in your area. The service works similar to a taxi, but one advantage is that you pay with a pre-registered credit card and no money is exchanged with the driver.

Representatives from Uber answered questions about the app and what qualifications are needed to drive for the company, but there's one question that is still unanswered... When is Uber coming to Buffalo?

At this point, the state legislature needs to address the issue of insurance, barriers to entry and make sure that they are creating a level playing field for car services. If the law is passed in January, Uber could be up and running a week or two later.
