Ever since Val Townsend and I began working together on 'Because I Said So', she has always tried to get me to do things outside of my comfort zone.  She knows I have no will power when it comes to saying no, so I am an easy target.  She takes full advantage of that, so we started a new series called Tony Tries.

This week I am trying whole body Cryogenic Therapy, courtesy of Pur Life Medical Spa & Juicery.  I wasn't 100% sure what this was going in, other than that it would be really cold, but admittedly I was nervous.  Turns out, it was amazing and I am so glad that I did it.

Prior to going to Pur Life, I always associated Cryogenic Therapy with famous people dying and then being frozen so that they can be thawed out in the future.  Dr. Evil did it and it worked, and I know Ted Williams and Walt Disney are on deck as well.

Pur Life gives you the opportunity to do this while still alive.  I went in wearing nothing but underwear and the supplied gloves, socks, and shoes, and then was enclosed in a chamber cooled with liquid nitrogen to -156°C (-249°F) for three minutes. This shocks the body into releasing endorphins (the body’s natural pain reliever) and helps suppress pain without the use of drugs.

After warming back up my body felt great and I definitely felt energized.  I was on a high, and the fact that I just burned 600 calories in 3 minutes was a bonus.  Oh, did I forget to mention that part?  600 CALORIES!!  All I had to do is stand in a cold chamber for 3 minutes.  Don't get me wrong, it was cold, but not cold enough to stop me from wanting to burn 600 calories!

That is just one of the perks of Cryogenic Therapy.  Here is more of the magic you can expect for 1-3 minutes in the chamber:

  • Drug Free Pain Relief
  • Reduce Stress
  • Improve Deep Sleep
  • Flush Toxins
  • Resist Muscle Fatigue
  • Reduce Inflammation
  • Faster Recovery

I am so happy that I was able to experience this.  I would even venture to say that it was a life changing moment for me, and I cannot wait to go back and do it again.  This is only one aspect of Pur Life, and from what I learned during my visit, there are so many more that I am personally excited to try!
