We were getting ready to hop into a couple of cars and take mom and grandma to their favorite restaurant for Mother’s Day 1996. I thought that was a good time to give mom her Mother's Day card along with a cassette tape that I had put a special song on.

“What’s this?” she asked. “Oh just a little song I put on a tape for you to listen to when you’re driving around. It makes me think of you.” I said. “I’ve got to listen to it right now!” she mumbled. I said, “please don't, it’s like five minutes long, you don’t have to do it now, you're embarrassing me” Well, that didn’t stop her.

I remember thinking that she’d find the Jimmy Dean song goofy, odd, or just plain silly but after sitting in that car for the whole five to six minutes, she came out with her eyes all teared up and gave me a big hug. That was a hug that I’ll never forget.

We lost mom the next year so this memory really tugs on my heart strings. So get your mom near a computer or a phone, turn up the volume and push play for a lasting Mother’s Day memory.

Warning: It may bring a tear to her eyes (like it did to my mother) followed by a big hug!

Happy Mother’s Day moms!
