Governor Cuomo is helping put a freeze on SUNY school tuition this year. SUNY wanted the ability to raise tuition by up to $300 a year for the next five years, which they had up until this year.

New York State school officials offered to install a one-year tuition freeze if the state provided the 64 campuses $73 million in state aid – Governor Cuomo was not opposed. According to WGRZ:

Cuomo revealed that the state expects counties to find $250 million collectively in savings from Medicaid, the health-insurance program funded by state, federal and county governments. The state in recent years has installed a Medicaid cap for counties, meaning they no longer pay for the growth in the program.

Cuomo contended that counties no longer have an incentive to trim costs because the state is picking up the tab.
