They still haven’t gotten their own solo Marvel movie (at least until Captain Marvel comes out), but women have been the breakout stars of most of the recent MCUBlack Panther has a slew of great female characters, including Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia and Danai Gurira’s Okoye, and Tessa Thompson ruled over Thor: Ragnarok. All of these heroines will be back for Avengers: Infinity War, but how about a movie they don’t have to share with the dudes? Thompson thinks it’s possible.

At the premiere of Annihilation, Thompson told IGN she is “hopeful” something like that could occur, and that there is clearly “interest” in highlighting female heroes in the fourth phase of the MCU:

"I'm not Marvel so I can't make it happen, but I can tell you that Marvel is hugely collaborative, I think our even our Thor movie was basically the product of conversations they'd had with Chris [Hemsworth] and with Mark [Ruffalo] about what they wanted to do next. I think [Marvel boss] Kevin Feige is really excited by the idea, and if you look at what's happened already in Phase 4 with me and [Thompson's character] Valkyrie and our story, and then in Black Panther the women rule supreme.

There is definitely some comic-book precedents for all-female hero teams at Marvel. The recent A-Force book features powerful ladies like She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, Medusa, and more; there’s been at least one volume of the X-Men comic that only starred X-Women (including Storm, Psylocke, and Jubilee). The A-Force comic is quite good, in fact, and I could see that very easily making a cool movie, although the membership might have to be changed to reflect the MCU, putting in characters like Black Widow and Valkyrie. A movie with Scarlett Johansson, Tessa Thompson, and Lupita Nyong’o? I would watch that.
