Kristen Wiig has officially been cast as Wonder Woman's next villain.

Just over a week after reports surfaced that the Saturday Night Live alum was in talks to play Cheetah in the franchise's upcoming sequel, director Patty Jenkins confirmed the news via Twitter on Friday (March 9).

"Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can't wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned," she wrote.

The character, a feline-esque adversary with super strength and speed, was first introduced in Wonder Woman No. 6 in 1943. However, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter, the most popular version didn't emerge until 1987, as Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva, under the work of writer Len Wein and artist George Perez.

Little is known about the Wonder Woman follow-up aside from that it will reportedly be set amid the Cold War of the 1980s. Wiig will co-star alongside Gal Gadot, who leads as the film's titular hero.

The Last Man on Earth actress is next set to voice Ruffnut Thorston in How to Train Your Dragon 3, as well as appear in Where'd You Go, Bernadette, an adaptation of Maria Semple's 2012 novel of the same name.
