Recently a Florida man was arrested and admitted to installing credit card skimmers at local gas stations in Lancaster, Amherst, and Tonawanda.

We did some research and found a couple of different ways that you can help prevent credit card fraud with these skimmers.

1. While at the pump, tug on the unit where you swipe your credit card. This unit should move or pop off. If it does, please alert the attendant.

2. Cover the number pad while you punch in your credit card pin number. Some thieves will put a camera trained on the pad to record your code.

3. Check your credit card statements on a regular basis. If you see a charge that is not normal, contact your bank.
