This terrifying eye sore is almost a thing of the past in my dear hometown!

My niece and nephew, when visiting Jamestown from Albany, will ask their parents if they can go see "the scary lady".

The hideous creation has all but terrorized the village of Celoron (just outside Jamestown), complete with square teeth, bugged out eyes, and a certain zombie-esque look to her. (The local outcry was VERY palatable...check out some comments on this Facebook page dedicated to the heinous nature!)

The 400-pound bronze nightmare will be replaced with a new creation by artist Carolyn Palmer on Saturday (8/6/16), just in time for what would've been Lucy's 105th birthday!

Judging from the small profile of the new statue (below, with the artist), this one is a GIANT improvement.

Mix 96 listener, Diane Hyzy, was in Jamestown last week and had a chance to meet Palmer and take a couple quick pics of the new statue, albeit still covered....

Palmer said she spent months watching "I Love Lucy", trying to make sure she nailed the likeness. She said:

I not only wanted to portray the playful, animated and spontaneous Lucy, but also the glamorous Hollywood icon.

The original sculpture's artist, David Poulin, called his own work "by far the most unsettling sculpture."  Most of us agree, sir.

P.S. You can win tickets ALL WEEK to the 25th Anniversary of Lucille Ball Comedy Festival in Jamestown on the Mix Morning Rush!
