Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the first proposal of his 2016 "Raise the minimum wage" agenda.

The proposal includes raising the minimum wage rates for State University employees to $15 an hour. The Governor's move would affect nearly 28,000 people, with 8,800 of them working in Western New York and the Southern Tier.

If the SUNY Board of Trustees approves Cuomo's plan, the wage increase will be progressively phased-in from February 2016 until July 2021. The plan will affect nearly 28,000 workers and cost SUNY $28-million.
