I initially thought I was seeing things ... not because I saw a Black NASCAR Daytona 500 Driver, which definitely surprised me...but even moreso...I thought it was the 'Black-ish' Son-Star, Marcus Scribner (real name Andre Johnson)...but I was wrong.

The Driver I was seeing is Darrell 'Bubba' Wallace, and he is indeed the 1st African-American Driver, since 1969, to compete in the NASCAR Daytona 500 today.

According to ABC News, the 24 year-old 'Bubba' Wallace drove his No. 43 Chevrolet for Richard Petty Motorsports to a 3rd Place finish in the NASCAR Daytona 500 Qualifying Race ... a win that reportedly had 80 year-old Richard Petty going berserk over the feat.

'Bubba' Wallace told News Reporters:

"I just had a guard walk me from pit road to the media center. His name is Richard Petty. I've never seen him so excited in my life," Wallace said.

'Bubba' will be the 1st African-American Nascar driver to compete in the Daytona 500, however there was another African-American Nascar driver, Wendell Scott, who actually won the Grand National Series Nascar event in 1969.

The Daytona 500 airs today at 3pm EST on FOX from Daytona International Speedway according to Sports News.
