A Lake effect snow warning remains in effect from 11 p.m. this evening through 1 a.m. Friday for Erie, Genesee and Wyoming counties. This includes metro Buffalo.

A storm over the Upper Great Lakes will move northeastward to Northeastern Canada by Friday, The National Weather Service reports. The system will produce lake enhanced snow over the Great Lakes through Thursday evening. In the wake of the storm, northwest flow over the Lakes will aid in producing lake effect snow downwind from the Great Lakes Thursday night into Friday morning.

The greatest accumulations are still expected in the South towns. Accumulation is expected to be an additional two to three feet at a rate of two to four inches per hour in the most intense portion of the band on Thursday.

Expect west winds 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 35 miles per hour producing significant blowing and drifting snow.

Visibility is expected to be near to ZERO at times.

A warm-up and rainfall Sunday and Monday will result in significant snowmelt in areas, which received heavy lake effect snow. This may result in flooding of small streams and creeks as well as stem rivers.
