Bruno Mars' funk-inspired new album 24K Magic debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 2, selling 231,000 copies in its first week -- 194,000 of which were from traditional album sales — earning the “Chunky” singer his highest sales week yet.

24K Magic marks Mars’ third studio album, all three of which have debuted in the top three on the Billboard 200 chart.

While those are impressive numbers, 24K Magic sadly did not sell enough to score the top spot. The No. 1 went to Metallica’s Hardwired…to Self-Destruct, which serves as the band’s tenth studio album and sold 291,000 equivalent album units.

Hardwired…to Self-Destruct is the sixth Metallica album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and is also the third-largest debut of 2016, bested only by Drake’s Views and Beyonce’s Lemonade, which moved 1.04 million and 653,000 units, respectively.

This is the first time in a year that two albums have debuted with at least 200,000 copies sold. The last time that happened was in December 2015, when Justin Bieber’s Purpose (645,000 units moved) and One Direction’s Made in the A.M. (459,000) debuted at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.

And in further impressive news, Hardwired…to Self-Destruct also managed to move more units in its first week that any other rock album in the past two and a half years. Coldplay’s 2014 release Ghost Stories sold more copies, earning 382,000 sales based on the June 7, 2014 chart.
