If you are a Bills fan then you know it is a lopsided, abusive relationship.  We continue to give but we never seem to get - and in a sick way we enjoy the pain.  It has been a very long 16 years since our last relevant season and this one started out in a familiar way.

The Bills are the best at losing when we expect to win, and winning when we should probably lose.  We are great at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.  Growing up in the late 80's and early 90's it was just the opposite.  We were the team to beat and we always seemed to find a way to win.

The last 16 years have been riddled with disappointing losses.  This season started the same way with losses to an average Baltimore and NY Jet teams.  We found ourselves in an 0-2 hole staring up at the Cardinals and Patriots.  The only chance to salvage the season was to win the next 2...and then we did.

Bills Sunday

When I was younger Sundays were the best.  The Bills were the class of football, and we owned the AFC.  Game day parties were so much fun and the excitement in the air was amazing.  The food, the pageantry, the good times.  We also won, a lot.

Winning made it easier to enjoy Sundays, and guaranteed more Sundays of fun.  The biggest complaint over the last 16 years is that we are generally irrelevant by the end of October.  That makes winter really long.  The Sabres help, but they haven't pulled their weight lately either.

Sunday's win was the Bills 3rd in a row.  We haven't done that very often so it is a major accomplishment.  That sounds sad, but we are baby stepping out of a 16 year funk.  Does that guarantee more wins?  No, but what it does is guarantee at least a few more fun Sundays to watch our team be relevant.

This Sunday I watched the game with my wife and kids and we had a blast.  The kids were laughing and having a good time, which was easier to do because I wasn't an abused fan.  Did I mention the Bills can have a negative effect on me??

I don't know what this season will bring, but knowing the Bills it will be a roller coaster.  I am ready to strap in and enjoy the ride.  Let's see if we can continue to make Sundays great again!
