It was announced today that a positive case of Hepatitis A was found in a worker who handled food in two locations in Erie County. The worker did handle food which means there is a small, but serious chance that transmission of Hepatitis A could take place. Erie County Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein says,

“The health risk to the citizens of Erie County is very low - we are taking these actions with an abundance of caution to ensure the public health safety of our residents”

 

Yesterday the Erie County Department of Health was informed that was food service worker had been positive for Hepatitis A and had handled food in two location.

As a precaution Erie County will be providing prophylactic vaccine to those who may have been exposed. There will be a vaccination clinic for those who may have been exposed tomorrow at the Bowmansville Fire Hall from 3 PM to 8 PM. Visit erie.gov/ to reserve a time slot to receive you vaccination.

For residents, workers and visitors who may have dined at or visited Brookdale between 1/16-1/31, you should contact the facility for more information and to see if you will be in need of a vaccination.

For individuals who dined at Al-e-opps from 1/27-1/30  will be eligible for the vaccine.

Individuals should monitor themselves for the following symptoms,

  • tiredness
  • poor appetite
  • nausea & vomiting
  • abdominal pain
  • fever
  • followed by dark-colored urine/ light-colored stools
  • yellowing of eyes and skin

If you develop or display any of the symptoms you should call the Erie County Department of Health immediately at 858-2929.

Dr. Burstien also made it clear that there is no risk in eating in these two facilities now.
